Hi Smith families,
CP Smith is building a robust garden program with the goal of having every classroom involved with gardening. This year classrooms will plant crops in the spring to be harvested in the fall. The students will be able to help in growing and work with kitchen staff to serve what is grown at lunch as well as have fresh produce available for families to take home.
Join us Saturday April 29 from 9-12 when Day in the Dirt volunteers will help with site clean up and getting the site ready for the season and help build raised beds.
Additional materials needed: shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, buckets, hammers, drill/screw gun.
Bagels, coffee and juice will be served!
If the sign up is full, please come anyway! The more hands, the better!

Dear CP Smith families,
Sue Chayer and I have had an amazing time being your PTO leaders for the last three years. We have such a great school community and together we have been able to do some amazing things!
But it’s time for some fresh legs! We know from our experience with Smith families that there is a lot of talent in our group. We would like to give someone else the chance to put their talents and abilities to work and make their own contribution to the community. We can attest that, at the end of the day, it feels pretty awesome.
Here are the upcoming opportunities:
PTO president or co-presidents: Sue and I were barely active in the PTO before we stepped up. More than institutional knowledge you need:
-an ability to connect to people and to connect people with one another
-a desire to keep the momentum going
-a willingness to listen, collaborate, and give people room to contribute in individual ways
–basic accounting skills
-willingness to participate in decision making with an eye to fiscal responsibility
-ideally but not necessary, willing to advise on maximizing the income we have
Book Fair Coordinator:
–This is a one time event that usually takes place over several days, however, can be adjusted to suit the coordinator and librarian needs. Usually brings in about $2000 for library materials. Some preliminary plans will have to made this spring for an event in the fall.
We will be discussing these topics and more at the PTO meeting tonight, so please come!
