What Does a CP Smith Room Parent Really Do?

Well, the title kind of conjures images of lots of kids pulling on your shirt tails, interupting you when you talk, and insisting you watch them cartwheel, BUT, in fact, it is not like that. At all. There is no shoe tying, nose wiping, or shushing involved. (Unless you want to do those things, in which case, be our guest.)

A room parent, in real life, communicates with the classroom teacher whenever there is a special event that could use parent participation.  Then the room parent gets the word out to the other classroom parents and coordinates who is doing or bringing what to the special event.  This could pretty much be done from your desk via email and an awesome website called Sign Up Genius.

As the one who officially coordinates the parents you may give yourself as much work or as little as you wish.  So if you dream of attending and helping to pull off all of the special events in your child’s classroom, perfect!  If you prefer to stay safely distant from the runny noses etc. and wish for a job you can do without doing a lot of running around, also perfect!

To sign up to do this job please contact Christine Harris at vtstiner@hotmail.com.  Please include your name, your child’s name, teacher and grade.

Thanks and enjoy!

Could You Possibly….?

Hi Smith families,

Three things:

  1. Grown ups wanted to be…well, grown ups in the school cafetaria during lunch times.  Can you spare one hour, one day a week to open containers, hand out straws, talk to kids, and just be a friendly presence?  I absolutely promise you, you will get to know some really cool kids!  Lunch is served from 11:35 to 12:30 daily.  To take one day a week please use the Sign Up Genius here.
  2. A teacher recently explained to me how she could really use a document camera in her classroom but the school doesn’t have one.  But this reliable Education website is giving one away.  Can you take a second to register with your email address to win one for our school.  Click here to register.
  3. Extravaganza items wanted!!!  Once again we are planning our super successful Student Holiday Shopping Extravaganza in which students have the opportunity to buy holiday gifts (donated by you!) for their families at bargain prices.  Please drop off any unwanted jewelry, nick nacks, toys, books, games, household items, etc. in the main office.  The Extravaganza will take place on Monday, December 7, 2015.

Thanks everybody!!!

Anybody Have Access to a Small Solar Panel to be Used at School?

Hi all,

CP Smith kindergarten teacher Adam Deyo is interested in borrowing a small solar panel in order to show the kids how the power of the sun can be harnassed to light a lightbulb.  Cool right?

Do any of you awesome parents have one or know of someone who could provide such a thing temporarily?  If yes, please email us at cpsmithpto@gmail.com.

Thanks!!
